COLONEL C RANAWEERA RWP RSP
Colonel Chandana Ranaweera assumed duties as the Colonel General Staff Branch of the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force on 05 March 2014.
This Officer is a proud product of Prince of Wales College, successfully completed the secondary education and joined the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army on 20 July 1987 as an Officer Cadet. On successful completion of Military training at Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa, he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the Sri Lanka Army on 23 June 1989 and posted to the 3rd Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry which was one of the prestigious regiments in the Sri Lanka Army.
He served in southern part of the country during the JVP insurrection and with the escalation of the Ealam War II, this senior Officer served in Palali Jaffna. Thereafter, he has served in North & East operational areas rendering his valuable service while safeguarding the sovereignty of the Motherland until the end of the Ealam war on 19 May 2009.
During his career he held many appointments such as Adjutant, Company Commander, Second in Command and he has commanded the prestigious 1st Battalion SLLI during the humanitarian operations. He also has held many ERE appointments as Staff Officer Grade II at 11 Division, Staff Officer Grade I at Chief Of Staff Office, General Staff Officer Grade I – 57 Division, Colonel Infantry at Directorate of Infantry and Commander of 563 Infantry Brigade.
Colonel Chandana Ranaweera also has followed many local and foreign courses: Platoon Commander Course, Company Commander’s Refresher Course, Arty Observer Course, Air Mobile Course, Instructor Course in IHL & HR locally and All Arms Field Engineering Course in Pakistan, Young Officers Course in India, Basic Parachute Course in India, Junior Command and Staff Course in Bangladesh and Senior Command Course in India. He also participated in UN Mission in Haiti in 2004. The academic courses that he has followed include Diploma in Disaster Planning and he is reading for his Masters Degree in Security and Strategic Studies at Kotelawela Defence University.
Colonel Chandana Ranaweera is awarded with Rana Sura Padakkama and Rana Wickrama Padakkama for his bravery during the operations. In appreciation of the services rendered by him to the Sri Lanka Army this senior Officer has been awarded with North and East Humanitarian Operation Medal, Purna Bhumi Padakkama, North and East Operations Medal, Riviresa Campaign Service Medal, 50th Independence Anniversary Medal 1998, Sri Lanka Army 50th Anniversary Medal 1999, Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal 1979, Videsha Seva Padakkama and United Nations Medal (MINUSTAH).
He is married to a teacher and blessed with a daughter and a son.
