Principal Staff Officer



Brigadier K Prematilleke RWP RSP assumed duties on 13 February 2015 as the Principal Staff Officer of the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force which has a proud history of 136 years.

This Officer is a proud product of Nalanda College Colombo, and joined the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army in June 1986 as an Officer Cadet. On successful completion of academic studies at Kothalawala Defence University he obtained Bachelor of Arts Degree. He underwent Military training at Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa. He was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the Sri Lanka Army in 1988 and posted to the Gamunu Watch which is one of the prestigious regiments in the Sri Lanka Army.

The professional courses he had followed during his military career included Young Officers’ Course in Pakistan in 1996, Junior and Staff Course in Bangladesh in 1998, Commando Parachute Course at Ganemulla Commando Training School in 2001, Electronic Data Processing Course at AHQ Colombo in 2002, International Military Observer course in Hungaria in 2004, Commanding Officers Course in Jaffna in 2005 and Senior Command Course in India in 2009.

He had achieved the academic excellence from prestigious local and foreign institutions attaining Bachelor of Arts in Defence Studies at Kotelawala Defence University in 1989, Introduction to Org Behaviour at SLIDA in 2001, Certificate Course in Human Resources Management at Institute of Personnel Management in 2004 and Diploma Course in Human Rights at Institute of HR in 2004.

In his long and illustrious military career spanning over 28 years, Brigadier Prematilleke had gathered an array of military experience in diverse scopes whilst holding a number of key operational and staff appointments at various establishments in the Sri Lanka Army prior to take over the appointment of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force; Company Commander, Second in Command, Battalion Commanding Officer, Commandant IPSOTSL Kukuleganga, Brigade Commander of 214 Brigade, 213 Brigade and 522 Brigade.

The profound knowledge and experience he had acquired attending the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI) Capstone Exercise Shanti Prayas Senior Training Seminar at Binendra Peace Operations Training Centre (BPOTC) in Nepal from 25 March to 07 April 2013, Seminar on Near East South Asia for Strategic Studies Executive in October 2012 in Washington D.C, USA and such other training programmes and effectively utilized in the development of the Organization at large.

In recognition of his dedication, unblemished service and loyalty to the Organization, he was awarded Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) and several other service medals during his tenure.

Brigadier K Prematilleke RWP RSP is married to Ms Kanchana and blessed with two daughters.
