Major General M H S B Perera RWP RSP USP ndu psc

Maj Gen M H S Boniface Perera RWP RSP USP ndu psc assumed duties as Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force on 08 November 2016. Presently, he is the Colonel of the Sinha Regiment.

Maj Gen Boniface Perera is a distinguished Officer and an Infantryman from the prestigious Sinha Regiment of Sri Lanka Army. He was enrolled to Sri Lanka Army in 1981 and completed his basic Officer Cadet training at Sri Lanka Military Academy.

Maj Gen Perera has actively participated in operations against LTTE for more than 20 years within which he commanded troops as  Platoon Commander, Company Commander, Battalion Commander and a Brigade Commander to victory in many intense battles during his distinguished career. He was recognized for his gallantry and outstanding performances displayed in the battle front and awarded ”Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP)” and ” Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP)” many times including killing of Gopi, Tewiaan and Appan who were close associates of the terrorist leader.

Maj Gen Perera had the opportunity of broadening the horizons of military knowledge by having successfully completed a number of military courses and attending to seminars such as Regimental Signal Officers’ Course in Pakistan, Small Arms Course in China, Young Officers’ Course in India, Junior Command Course in India, World’s Latest Weapons Technology Seminar in Singapore, Senior Command Course in India, EX COBRA GOLD with multinational forces in Thailand and Search & Rescue Administrator course in Singapore. He led the senior military delegations to Romania, China and Russia on military and diplomatic missions.  He represented the Commander of the Army at the United Nations Headquarters, New York in Chiefs of Defence Conference on 27 March 2015. Again he represented the Commander of the Army at Defence Fair and Bilateral Talks among Commanders of Foreign Nations in Turkey.

Further, he was graduated from Defence Services Command and Staff College in Sri Lanka. He also obtained a Diploma in Senior Defence Management from Devi Ahilya University, Indore, India. Maj Gen Perera, possesses a Diploma in Personnel Management too from the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) in Sri Lanka. Moreover, He is an alumni and an honourable member of the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) and the Search & Rescue Administrator of prestigious Singapore Aviation Academy. He obtained the graduation on National Defence from People’s Liberation Army China.

During his illustrious career in the Army, he has held many Staff Appointments at different levels in many military formations and instructor appointments including the appointment of Commandant Army Infantry Training Centre. He Commanded an Infantry Division, Security Forces Command – East and  Commander Security Force in the Wanni Theatre of Sri Lanka along with the appointment of the Competent Authority for Internally Displaced Personnel in the North.

Maj Gen Perera was the Security Force Commander in the Eastern Theatre of Military Operations in Sri Lanka and was instrumental in introducing the mechanism of functioning Search & Rescue agencies into the military during the recent flood disaster experienced in the Eastern Theatre of Military Operations where the military rescued 1,700 people and evacuated many 100 thousands of people out of 1.2 million displaced personnel, whilst exhibiting a very high standard of Command, Control, Coordination, and Communication of all troops along with the Armed Forces and local government authorities. This has become a model and the same was shared with international community on how to mitigate a disaster with very limited resources. Recent resettlement project to resettle 10000 Internally Displaced People  at Bogaswewa was a brainchild by him.

Maj Gen Boniface Perera is an outstanding sportsman having excelled in Volleyball and Soccer at National Level. He has published many articles, thesis and research papers including:

 He is the author of the popular military novel “AWIBIMAKA HADAGESMA” .

 He is also a recipient of ‘Deshakeerthi’ and ‘Lankaputhra’ titles awarded by Ramagngna Chapter in recognition of his distinguished  service extended to the civil community in the Mother Lanka.
