Deputy Commandant – Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force
Major General L F Kasthuriarachchi assumed duties as Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force which has a proud history of 136 years in the annals of the Volunteer Force in Sri Lanka.
Major General Kasthuriarachchi, a proud product of Lumbini Maha Vidyalaya, Colombo successfully completed the secondary education in 1979 and joined the Volunteer Force of the Sri Lanka Army on 14 February 1986 as an Officer Cadet. On successful completion of training at Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa, he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant on 15 December 1980 and posted to Fifth Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery which is one of the prestigious units in the Sri Lanka Army.
The professional courses he had followed during his military career included Junior Command Course Mhow India, Method of Instructions Course, Mid Management Officers Administration Course, Unit Signal Officers Course, International Humanitarian Instructor Course, Human Rights Law Course, Second In Command Course and Senior Officers Course.
In his long and illustrious military career spanning over 32 years, Major General Kasthuriarachchi had gathered an array of military experience in diverse scopes whilst holding a number of key operational and staff appointments at various establishments in the Sri Lanka Army prior to take over the command as Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force; Platoon Commander, Battery Captain, Unit Adjutant cum Assistant Logistic Officer, Battery Commander, Second In Command, Commanding Officer, General Staff Officer Grade I, Colonel General Staff, Staff Officer Grade I, VP Commander Kolonnawa Oil Installation Complex, Civil Affairs Officer 511 Brigade, 51 Dvision, Assistant Colonel Coordinating Officer Security Force Headquarters Jaffna, Colonel Coordinating Officer 54 Division and 64 Division, Senior Colonel Coordinating Officer Security Force Headquarters Wanni and Director Senehasa Special Education Centre.
The profound knowledge he had acquired attending the Executives Seminar in Leadership and Productivity Improvement, Leadership & Team Management Workshop, National Human Resource Conference – 2013 conducted by IPM and Productivity Workshop at Sri Lanka Standard Institution.
In recognition of his dedication, unblemished service and loyalty to the Organization, he was awarded Poornabhumi Padakkama, North and East Operations Medal, Vadamarachchi Operation Medal, Reviresa Campaign Service Medal, 50th Independence Anniversary Medal, Sri Lanka Army 50th Anniversary Medal and Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Services Medal.
Major General Kasthuriarachchi had gathered an array of military experience and academic qualifications which included Master of Arts (Sociology) at University of Kelaniya Bachelor of Management Studies (Special) at Open University of Sri Lanka, Master’s Degree in Development Economics Studies at University of Colombo, Diploma in Management at Open University in Sri Lanka, National Diploma in Human Resource Management at National Institute of Business Management (NIBM), Office Management at NIBM, Professional Certificate in Marketing (PCM) at Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), Certificate in Library Science at University of Kelaniya, Certificate in English Language at Institute of Human Resources at University of Colombo and Certificate in English for Academic Purposes at Open University in Sri Lanka.
Major General Kasthuriarachchi is married to Chandima and blessed with a son and a Daughter.
