The newly constructed state of the art kitchen and the mess for Other Ranks at Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force were declared open by Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Major General Piyal Wickramaratne today (Tuesday) amidst the chanting of seth pirith by maha sangha. The Mess facility which will be open from today onwards for soldiers serving in the headquarters in Salawa Kosgama has been a fulfillment of aspirations of soldiers.
Consequent to the unveiling of the plaques, the Commandant inspected the facilities available and subsequently laid the foundation stone for the proposed Warrant Officers & Sergeants’ Mess.
The construction of the kitchen and the mess was done under the supervision of Commanding Officer of 10th Battalion of Engineer Services Regiment with the labour contribution of the troops of the Volunteer Battalions of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
The Commandant addressing the audience emphasized that the project is unique due to its application of the green concept and the active involvement of Officers and the men of the Staff of the Headquarters and the Battalions under command. Further, the Commandant did not forget to extend his thank and gratitude to the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake who visited the construction site recently and extended the required impetus in fulfilling the requirements needed. Furthermore, he thanked all those whose contribution has been of greatly influential to endow a fully furnished air conditioned mess for the soldier.
