Major General MHSB Perera RWP RSP USP ndu psc Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force relinquished the appointment of Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force amidst formal military honours on Thursday, 30 November.

A series of formalities observed in connection with the relinquishment of the appointment commenced with the reviewing of the Guard Turn Out accorded to the outgoing Commandant on arrival to the venue. He was received by Brigadier L F Kasthuriarachchi, the Deputy Commandant. Thereafter, the Chief Guest was ushered to the saluting dais of the parade ground to receive military honours.

The Chief Guest took the Salute of the parade which consisted of the Parade Commander from Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Colonel S B Kohona, Second in Command Lieutenant Colonel W K A S Priyanthalal RWP RSP SLSR, 23 Officers and 525 troops representing all regiments of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force. Afterwards, the Chief Guest inspected the Guard of Honour accorded to him in keeping with military traditions, on the request of the Parade Commander.

A large gathering of Officers and soldiers who attended the occasion included Centre Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps, Colonel Coordinating Officers, Civil Affairs Officers, Liaison Officers of Security Force Headquarters and Commanding Officers along with the staff of HQ SLAVF.

Addressing the troops, outgoing Commandant thanked the Deputy Commandant and the staff along with parade commander and troops for the excellent arrangements made on his behalf. He further added some important thoughts which would be valuable to the life of the soldiers during and after the military service. He was grateful to all ranks and every individual including the retired members and civil servants for the indelible support extended during his tenure. Further, the fallen War Heroes, the wounded and the Volunteer Force personnel who departed the life on the name of the Motherland were remembered.

The outgoing Senior Officer did not forget to have an exchange of a few words with the Officers and Other Ranks while having a cup of tea with them after which he was honoured with a memento in appreciation of his illustrious service to the Volunteer Force.

The day’s proceedings reached the culmination with the departure of Major General MHSB Perera RWP RSP USP ndu psc from the Office of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
