VOLUNTEER FORCE GIVES AWAY OVER RS.13 MILLION WORTH EDUCATIONAL GRANTS TO STUDENTS

Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force organized a ceremony of donating school items for children of fallen and serving members of the SLAVF and civil staff attached to the SLAVF, with the intention of enhancing their educational dreams. Symbolic award of Educational items were taken place at a simple ceremony held at the Headquarters Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force on 20 November 2017 with the gracious presence of the Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Major General Boniface Perera as the Chief Guest.

 

This occasion was witnessed by a large gathering of senior Officers, invitees and parents. Proceedings of the ceremony were commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. After the audience being enlightened with regard to the significance of the event, a total of 78 students who are eligible for university education were symbolically awarded tablet computers. In addition, all school going children of the fallen and serving members of SLAVF are entitled to receive educational items which are useful for them for education, according to the concept of the Commandant. The items of donation include a book pack, dictionary with a CD, digital dictionary and a school bag which are personally delivered to the respective students by the Volunteer Battalions deployed island wide.  The total number of beneficiaries is 15,109 students.

 

Major General Boniface Perera addressing the gathering appreciated the educational feats of the students while emphasizing the true value and the requirement of achieving right education. He further extended his gesture of educational encouragement by awarding a special financial donation to a determined student with special needs yet studying at the Arts Faculty of University of Peradeniya, Miss Chathurani Shyamali Ranaweera in appreciation of her untiring effort to realize her educational dream setting a fine example to the entire student community.

 

The significance of the event is that the entire educational awards were funded by the members of the SLAVF through the dividends generated from the investments made for welfare.
