Brigadier W H D Mahanada who served the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force for 31 years relinquished the appointment of the Deputy Commandant today (12) prior to his retirement which is scheduled on 14 October 2017. The formalities observed at the Headquarters premises in keeping with military traditions commenced with the reviewing of the Guard Turn Out accorded to the outgoing Deputy Commandant by the troops of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, on arrival to the venue.
Addressing the troops of the Volunteer Force, the outgoing Senior Officer extended his gratitude for excellent arrangements made on his behalf. He further unfolded the pleasant memories in the military spelling out that his tenure as Deputy Commandant of the Volunteer Force will be reminiscent as one of the best chapters in his military career as he was able to work with a team of exceptional capabilities. He was grateful to all ranks, every individual including the retired members and civil staff for the support extended to him during his tenure.
After posing for photographs with the Staff of the SLAVF, the Senior Officer did not forget to have an exchange of a few words with the Officers and Other Ranks while having a cup of tea with them after which he was honored with a memento in appreciation of his illustrious service to the Volunteer Force.
The days proceedings reached the culmination with the departure of Brigadier W H D Mahanada from the Office of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force amidst good-bye cheers of Officers and Other Ranks who street lined on both sides of the road leading to the Main Gate.
A large gathering of Officers and soldiers who attended the occasion included Senior Officers of the Headquarters of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Centre Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps, Colonel Coordinating Officers, Civil Affairs Officers, Liaison Officers and Commanding Officers of Volunteer Battalions.
