A three-storied building constructed for accommodation of soldiers of the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force was declared open by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General A W J C De Silva as the Chief Guest on the invitation of Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Major General M H S B Perera.
The proceedings of a dignified ceremony started with the arrival of the Chief Guest and accompanied by the Commandant to the venue. Following the religious observances, Commander of the Army unveiled the plaque and inspected the accommodation area. Afterwards, the Chief Guest and the senior Officers planted saplings of trees symbolizing the preservation of the greenery concept. Commander of the Army while addressing the Officers & the Other Ranks in attendance appreciated the giant stride of the Commandant in his endeavour in regaining the pride of the Volunteer Force and contribution of its members. The Commander assured his blessings and support to the construction process and to raise the standards of the Volunteer Force and professionalism of its members. Subsequently, the Chief Guest made donations to the accommodation complex.
Commandant of the Volunteer Force realizing the contemporary requirement, initiated actions to elevate the quality of work life of the soldier by providing accommodation based on his own concept. Accordingly, the accommodation complex which was constructed in 40 days by the soldiers under the directions of the Commandant comprised of enough space for soldiers for living and light, a cupboard with a mirror along with other necessary amenities including a library cupboard for each permitting to enhance their knowledge, a separate bathroom for five soldiers, a cloth line and the relaxation area linked up with the pond that supports the green concept.
The Commandant pioneered to reconstruct the state-of-the-art headquarters complex to suit to the present world after the camp complex in Salawa, Kosgama was totally devastated due to an explosion in June 2016. With the blessings of the Commander of the Army, the Volunteer Force enabled to realize the accommodation facility in the first stage of the construction along with the untiring efforts and the support of many quarters.
