Heralding the dawn of the New Year 2017, the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force initiated the work of the first working day today (02.01.2017) having accomplished customary military formalities presided by Major General MHSB Perera the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
Having unfurled the National Flag by the Commandant and the Volunteer Force Flag by the Deputy Commandant, the National Anthem and Army Song were recited as the flags were on the full swing. Just after two minutes silence being observed in memory of the fallen War Heroes, all in attendance pledged their allegiance to the State by reading the Government Servants’ Oath before the Commandant. Bringing the new rays of hope for the dawned New Year, Brigadier WWMGR Perera read out the New Year Message issued by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General A W J C De Silva extending best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
Subsequently, the Commandant addressed the gathering while highlighting the value of working with commitment to endow the future generation with a better tomorrow.
The occasion was attended by Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Brigadier WHD Mahanada, Principal Staff Officer Brigadier K Prematilleke, Heads of Branches Officers and Other Ranks.
Following the auspicious commencement of the work in the New Year, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force inspected the progress of the construction of the Headquarters complex and attended Cornerstone Laying Ceremony for Accommodation Complex for the Other Ranks at the new land in Salawa Kosgama amidst chanting of sethpirith by maha sangha invoking blessings.
