Major General H C P Goonetilleke with an illustrious military career spanning over 35 years bid farewell to the Volunteer Force as the Commandant on 17 November 2016 completing a milestone in his military career at Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
A series of formalities observed at Headquarters, Kosgama in connection with the relinquishment of the appointment commenced with the reviewing of the Guard Turn Out accorded to the outgoing Commandant on arrival to the venue. He was received by Brigadier W H D Mahanada the Deputy Commandant and Brigadier K Prematillake the Principal Staff Officer. On the request of the Parade Commander, the Chief Guest inspected the parade accorded to him by the Volunteer Force in keeping with military traditions.
A large gathering of Officers and soldiers including Centre Commandant of Sri Lanka National Guard, Colonel Coordinating Officers, Liaison Officers and Commanding Officers attended the occasion.
Addressing the troops of the Volunteer Force, Major General Goonetilleke spelt out the significance of efficiency of the Volunteer Force personnel, empowering the battalion strength while extending his gratitude to the Deputy Commandant and the Staff for all generous support during the office as Commandant of the Volunteer Force.
After posing for photographs, the outgoing Commandant was accorded to a tea after which he was honored with a memento in appreciation of his illustrious service to the Volunteer Force.
The day’s proceedings in the headquarters premises reached the culmination with the departure of Major General Channa Goonetilleke from the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force amidst good-bye cheers of Officers and Other Ranks who street lined on both sides of the road leading to the Main Gate.
