Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force celebrated its 134th anniversary with a solemn religious ceremony at the Headquarters premises in Salawa Kosgama on and 31 March 01 April 2015 under the auspices of the Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Major General H C P Goonetilleke.
The religious ceremony which commenced with the chanting of All Night Pirith was followed by offering Alms the following day. Ven Palugama Deegananda Thero, Ven Kanampelle Sumanananda Thero, Ven Deniyaye Sumeda Thero, Ven Gewelwala Gunananda Thero and Ven Bollathawe Seelananda Thero officiated at the religious ceremony invoking blessings on all those who laid down their lives for the Motherland, those wounded in action, all those serving in the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and the ex-servicemen of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
A cross section of personnel representing all the battalions of the Volunteer Force along with the Colonels Coordinating Volunteer Matters at Formartion HQ joined the staff of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Headquarters in religious observances. Senior officers retired from the Volunteer Force too graced the occasion.
The first working day was marked with a colourful ceremony where the National Flag and the Volunteer Force Flag were hoisted by the Commandant and Deputy Commandant respectively. The National Anthem and the Army Song were sung by the troops on parade to the tune of the Army Band. A minute’s silence was then observed in remembrance of the fallen.
The Commandant addressed troops and set out the road map for the year ahead and reiterated on the role of every segment of the organization.
